Student Cyber Safety Training page

Welcome to Killara High School and the BYOD program. On this page you will find all of the learning resources you will require to complete the training. (click on the hyperlink to go to the lesson).

Lesson Plans (Cyber Safety and Digital Citizenship)

Lesson 1: Introduction and Digital Citizenship

In this lesson student's will be introduced to the key concepts of Digital Citizenship (Engage positively, know your online world and choose consciously) and the concepts of digital footprint throughout your life. 

Lesson 2: Young & E Safe: Critical thinking

Critical thinking is the ability to examine information to make an informed judgement on an issue. It is particularly important online, where information can be easily changed, manipulated or taken out of context. In lesson student's will develop their critical thinking skills through class discussion looking at practical scenarios.

Lesson 3: Young & E Safe: Empathy

Students demonstrate empathy online when they recognise and respond to others in a way that takes into account their feelings and beliefs. This lesson will develop students’ empathy skills through practice by actively and positively supporting others online.

Lesson 4: Young & E Safe: Respect

Respect is having regard for the feelings, wishes and rights of others. This lesson will develop students’ understanding of respectful online communication and increase their capacity to respond to online situations in a positive way.

Lesson 5: Young & E Safe: Resilience

The online world can be challenging, and young people need resilience to help them bounce back from stressful situations. This lesson will develop students’ understanding of resilience through identifying their strengths, skills and coping strategies.

Lesson 6: Young & E Safe: Responsibility

Young people are responsible online when they understand and apply their rights and obligations – such as their right to privacy and the obligation to stay within the law. This lesson will assist students in understanding their responsibility in online situations, including supporting others and speaking out about offensive or harmful online content or behaviours. ​

Lesson 7: #Game On: Cyber safety 1

In this lesson we look at cyber-bullying and hacking by following a group of lower secondary students who find themselves in situations that catch them off-guard and teach them the consequences of making poor decisions online.

Lesson 8: #Game On: Cyber safety 2

In this lesson we look at downloads, excessive gaming and what to do when your social media is hacked by following a group of lower secondary students that catch them off-guard and teach them the consequences of making poor decisions online.

Lesson 9: #Game On: Cyber safety 3

In this lesson we look at selfies, making smarter decisions and when to ask for help by following a group of lower secondary students that catch them off-guard and teach them the consequences of making poor decisions online. ​

Lesson 10: Rewrite your story (report cyber bullying)1

You can’t undo the past, and you can’t change the actions or words of other people, but you can Rewrite Your Story. In this lesson we look at two stories from Alexia and Marko and discuss the consequences of the choices that they have made. ​

Lesson 12: Tagged lesson 1

In this lesson we will explore how posting rumours can ruin digital reputations very quickly. This will explore the three areas of digital reputation, cyber safety and sexting.

Lesson 13: Tagged lesson 2

This lesson is a direct lead in from the Tagged lesson 1 and will delve deeper into the consequences of different peoples actions from the Tagged video seen in the last class. ​
