In this lesson student's will be introduced to the key concepts of Digital Citizenship (Engage positively, know your online world and choose consciously) and the concepts of digital footprint throughout your life.
Critical thinking is the ability to examine information to make an informed judgement on an issue. It is particularly important online, where information can be easily changed, manipulated or taken out of context. In lesson student's will develop their critical thinking skills through class discussion looking at practical scenarios.
Students demonstrate empathy online when they recognise and respond to others in a way that takes into account their feelings and beliefs. This lesson will develop students’ empathy skills through practice by actively and positively supporting others online.
Respect is having regard for the feelings, wishes and rights of others. This lesson will develop students’ understanding of respectful online communication and increase their capacity to respond to online situations in a positive way.
The online world can be challenging, and young people need resilience to help them bounce back from stressful situations. This lesson will develop students’ understanding of resilience through identifying their strengths, skills and coping strategies.
Young people are responsible online when they understand and apply their rights and obligations – such as their right to privacy and the obligation to stay within the law. This lesson will assist students in understanding their responsibility in online situations, including supporting others and speaking out about offensive or harmful online content or behaviours.
